The R language is a programming language and software environment for statistical analysis, graphical representing, and reporting. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland in New Zealand and is currently being developed by the R Development Core team. R is provided free of charge under the GNU General Public License and is available in precompiled binary versions for various operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and Mac. This programming language is named R based on the first letter of the names of two R language authors (Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka).
