Is the cbp position considered a law enforcement position?

Asked by Kamari Vaughan on Dec 09, 2021 FAQ

A recent published government employee survey ranked and rated CBP extremely low. This position is not considered or classified by the governement as a law enforcement position. Which means you have to work 30 yrs instead of 20 and you are not entitled to their pay or retirement. Morale is at an all time low!
In fact,
It has a workforce of more than 45,600 sworn federal agents and officers. It has its headquarters in Washington, D.C. CBP has a workforce of over 58,000 employees, including officers and agents, agriculture specialists, aircraft pilots, trade specialists, mission support staff, and canine enforcement officers and agents.
Thereof, Law Enforcement Officer who retires at age 55 with 25 years of covered service whose “high 3” is $70,000 would get $40,900 a year in retirement, plus the option of continued health and life insurance. A CBP Officer who retires today at age 55 with 25 years of service whose “high 3” is $70,000 might not be eligible for any immediate annuity at all.
Similarly,
In 2002, I was hired by another agency as a criminal investigator, a law enforcement position that falls under 6c. A few years ago, CBP officers were given law enforcement status in the government, and they are now all under 6c. Can I buy back my four years as an inspector since that position is now under 6c?
Besides,
To be considered for a Border Patrol Agent position with the CBP, you must first ensure that you meet the CBP’s basic requirements for employment, which include: U.S. citizen and U.S resident (of at least 3 years) A valid U.S. driver’s license.
