Why is the solar eclipse a great american eclipse?

Asked by Avery Parsons on Dec 02, 2021 Eclipse

This is truly a great American eclipse because totality will sweep the nation from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Nearly everyone in the US can reach this total solar eclipse within one day's drive. An eclipse is a cosmic billiard shot — the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up to reveal the Sun's atmosphere, it's corona.
In addition,
A solar eclipse happens when the moon gets in the way of the sun's light and casts its shadow on Earth . That means during the day, the moon moves over the sun and it gets dark. ... During a lunar eclipse, Earth gets in the way of the sun's light hitting the moon. That means that during the night, a full moon fades away as Earth's shadow covers it up.
Similarly, Lunar eclipses are more widely visible because Earth casts a much larger shadow on the Moon during a lunar eclipse than the Moon casts on Earth during a solar eclipse. As a result, you are more likely to see a lunar eclipse than a solar eclipse.
Indeed,
Lunar eclipses occur more often than solar eclipses. Because the Moon is closer to the Earth than it is to the Sun, the Earth has a much greater chance of blocking the sunlight to the Moon, compared to the Moon blocking the Earth’s light from the Sun.
Thereof,
[ ĭ-klĭps′ ] The partial or total blocking of light of one celestial object by another. An eclipse of the Sun or Moon occurs when the Earth, Moon, and Sun are aligned.♦ In a solar eclipse the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth.
