When is next sunday, this sunday or next sunday?

Asked by Clare Sierra on Dec 08, 2021 FAQ

If today is Thursday, May 4th, I would understand "next Sunday" to be Sunday, May 14th. "Next Xday" is imprecise. We use it frequently, and it's nearly always understood, but its meaning varies depending on how many days it is till the nearest Xday.
Moreover,
It is grammatically correct to say "very next". Very next day means the day after a certain event happened or happens. It means same as the next day but with an emphasis (to denote the short time period) and is used only in time-sensitive contexts and not every time one wants to refer the next day.
Besides, Monday is the day of the week between Sunday and Tuesday. According to the international standard ISO 8601 it is the first day of the week. In countries that adopt the "Sunday-first" convention, it is the second day of the week.
Consequently,
When is Selection Sunday? The 2020 Selection Sunday begins on March 15, at 6 p.m. ET. Where can I watch Selection Sunday? The 2020 Selection Sunday will be shown on TBS at 6p.m.
Thereof,
In some Muslim countries and Israel, Sunday is the first work day of the week. According to the Hebrew calendar and traditional Christian calendars, Sunday is the first day of the week. But according to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 8601, Sunday is the seventh day of the week.
