How to tell if an email is from paypal-paypal community?

Asked by Reid Gates on Dec 09, 2021 FAQ

Feb-17-2011 04:41 PM Welcome to the PayPal Community Help Forums! Phishing emails are fake emails that pretend to be from PayPal (but aren't from PayPal) and often send you to fake websites.
Just so,
When you aren't sure if you can trust an email claiming to be from PayPal, here are a few guidelines that can help you spot the real from the fake: Impersonal, generic greetings are used; such as “Dear user” or “Dear [your email address]”. Emails from PayPal will always address you by your first and last names or by your business name.
Additionally, You can ask your buyer to send their payment to any email address that you have added to your PayPal account. You can add up to 7 email addresses to your PayPal account. If a buyer sends their payment to an email address that you haven’t added to your account, we’ll send an email to that address.
And,
PayPal themselves say that if there’s a problem with your account then they would let you know via the website/app in the message centre. A genuine email from PayPal would also address you by name and not start with ‘Dear Customer’.
Indeed,
If you clicked on any links are or unsure, log in to your PayPal account and check your recent activity to make sure everything looks right. It's also important to report the fake email or website to PayPal as soon as possible. That way, we can help protect you and other PayPal members.
