How are concept mapping and mind mapping used in nursing?

Asked by Milan Gilbert on Dec 07, 2021 FAQ

Concept mapping and mind mapping have been used in science education since the 1970s. Nursing students in undergraduate and graduate classes are frequently asked to create concept maps or mind maps around a central concept or idea. These assignments may be used for individual or group projects and as a starting point for graduate student research.
Subsequently,
Nursing concept maps are used as a way to incorporate theory and practice, case management, educational journals, and nursing students' study techniques. The use of the concept map approach in nursing students has been described as enhancing the feeling of success, self-confidence, and the skills to build a critical thinking capacity.
In addition, The use of mind mapping activity allows varying levels of nursing students to develop an understanding of critical thinking (or the assigned nursing concept) using a collaborative team approach. This activity allows students to reflect and share effective safe quality clinical practices.
Also Know,
The obvious difference is in the definition of what concept map is and what mind map is. It is a graphical representation of the relationship between concepts with reference to a particular question in hand.
Additionally,
Concepts maps are often used to illustrate thoughts and connections as well as facilitate critical thinking in a nonlinear fashion. Concept maps have been used effectively in both clinical and academic settings 1 and may facilitate student engagement with the study topic. 2
