Can anyone help me to different between windows server 2008 and windows server 2008 R2,What is the main reason to launch windows server 2008 R2 .What are extra feature in windows Server 2008 R2 ? Server 2008 has the same kernel as Vista and is available for both 32 and 64 bit platforms.
And,
THe only thing I have encountered thusfar is that Window Server 2008 R2 is much more secure than regular Windows Server 2008. For instance, I develop for SharePoint, Of which a known issue is that it "forget" to enable Local launch / activation for the IIS Wamreg COM component.
Indeed, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition adds these features compared to the Standard edition: Active Directory Certificate Services are not limited to creating Certificate Authorities – no other ADCS features (NDES, Online Responder Service). File Services are not limited to 1 standalone DFS root.
In respect to this,
Windows Server 2008 R2 also included some new services, such as Remote Desktop Services, or RDS, which repackaged Terminal Services. Additionally, DirectAccess and BranchCache were introduced, designed to provide better server access to users in remote locations.
Moreover,
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter The Datacenter edition is intended only to large enterprise market, the main difference from the Enterprise is on the number of virtual machines that can be used with a single license is unlimited.
