Which is better, ansi layout or iso layout?

Asked by Genevieve Mayer on Dec 06, 2021 FAQ

ANSI is commonly used in the US, ISO is used most places in Europe. There's also JIS layout which is used in Japan. All you need to know is that ISO is better. All you need to know is that ANSI is better. ISO is normal and ANSI is the work of a mentally deranged lunatic.
Next,
The ISO keyboard layout is suitable for full-sized keyboards and comes with 105 keys. The difference between the ANSI keyboard layout and the ISO keyboard layout ranges from the size, shape, and arrangement of some of their keys.
In addition, ISO keycap sets are less common, many people living in countries that use ISO layouts buy an ANSI keyboard just for the keycap sets. The Alt Graph key is available on ISO keyboards and allows the user to access the third symbol on a key. This is common in other languages.
Moreover,
For me as a big-handed Mac user, ANSI has one huge advantage over ISO: the window-swapping key combination on a mac is Command-˜. On an ISO keyboard, the ˜ key is located on the row immediately above command, and slightly to the left. This makes it an extremely awkward combination.
Likewise,
If you only write in English, you can use either ANSI or ISO, however, if you usually write on an ANSI keyboard and you choose ISO for your Freewrite, the shorter left [shift] key and upside-down L [return] key will take some getting used to.
