When to use trusted connection in connection string?

Asked by Valentino McKenzie on Dec 01, 2021 FAQ

If you are connecting to a data source provider that supports Windows authentication, you should specify Trusted_Connection=yes instead of user ID and password information in the connection string. You must specify the data source name if you do not specify the UID, PWD, SERVER (or CONNECTSTRING), and DRIVER attributes.
Accordingly,
Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) is a mandate from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to reduce the number of Internet gateways on the federal government network and ensure that all external connections are routed through a government agency that has been designated as an approved TIC Access Provider.
Also, A trusted connection is the same thing as using Windows Authentication in SQL Server 2005. Authentication is done by the domain, and authorization is handled by SQL Server. SQL Server can also use its own logins, such as the sa user. These are both authenticated and authorized by SQL Server.
Also Know,
A trusted digital ID consists of a set of verified attributes (like verified ID documents or biometrics), thus providing a certifiable link between an individual and their digital identity. These attributes may also include verification with third parties such as Government databases, social identity, credit card numbers, or mobile records.
