When to use fewer resources or less resources?

Asked by Valentino Pittman on Dec 10, 2021 FAQ

Closed 7 years ago. I was writing a document in Microsoft Word, and it flagged "less resources" as being ungrammatical and suggested "fewer resources". I did some research, and it appears that "fewer resources" seems to be used more often, and one commenter on another English usage site said this was correct.
Furthermore,
America—a large, high-tech country that accounts for about 25% of the global economy—is now generally using less of most resources year after year, even as its economy and population continue to grow. What’s more, the US is polluting the air and water less, emitting fewer greenhouse gases, and replenishing endangered animal populations.
Besides, In fact, the vast majority of the world’s manufacturers have a wealth of opportunities to make more money and increase returns to shareholders by using fewer resources.
Just so,
Reuse cardboard boxes and packaging for storage or shipping. Recycle those materials that cannot be reused. The recycling of plastics, aluminum, steel, glass and paper requires energy, but reduces the harvest of raw materials. Individual changes will help reduce the use of natural resources, but changes made by groups will have the greatest effect.
Also,
The truck was less than a ton. When using less or fewer with percentages, if the percentage is describing something uncountable use less. For example, if it’s a percentage of milk, use less. However, if it’s a percentage about something countable, use fewer.
