What's the difference between a drop through and a drop down deck?

Asked by Rylee Brewer on Dec 02, 2021 FAQ

A drop-down deck is also called a drop deck or a drop platform (or dropped platform). These terms all refer to the same thing. However, drop-down is different than drop through. A drop-through deck means the trucks are mounted across the deck through cutout holes in it, so that the baseplate of the truck sits above the deck and the hanger below it.
And,
Drop-through decks have a hole cut where the truck goes, and usually feature big cutouts for the wheels to avoid wheelbite.
In addition, Drop through boards have a cut out where the baseplate sit on top of the board with rest of the trucks coming through underneath. This lowers the centre of gravity making the board feel more stable and easier to push and footbreak. However, the drop through longboard trucks will be less reactive to your input. Just so,
Check out our Top Mount Boards here. Drop through boards have the baseplate of the truck sit on the top of the deck while the hanger "drops through" the bottom. This lowers the board closer to the ground, increasing stability for speed and efficiency for pushing.
Accordingly,
You don’t need specific trucks for a drop-through – it’s the deck that’s special. Drop-through decks have a hole cut where the truck goes, and usually feature big cutouts for the wheels to avoid wheelbite.
