What makes a dom round steel tube dom?

Asked by Paulina McBride on Dec 02, 2021 FAQ

Steel DOM tubing is produced by annealing (heating) the tube to soften it so that it can be pulled over a tapered steel shaft (drawn over mandrel). DOM round steel tube is mandrel drawn, which produces a tube that has increased dimensional accuracy and tolerances with a smooth inside and outside finish.
Subsequently,
The manufacturing process for DOM tubing begins with coils of steel, which are slit to the proper width for the desired tube size. The strip is cold formed and passed through an electric resistance welder which joins the edges together, under pressure, to complete the tubular shape.
Indeed, This is a mild steel tubing that started out as a flat sheet of steel, formed into tubing and welded. DOM stands for Drawn Over Mandrel and it is actually ERW tubing that has gone through a second process that shapes and smoothes the tubing so that the walls are more uniform.
Similarly,
DOM Mechanical Steel Tubing is a Durable Solution for Mechanical Applications. DOM tubing is also referred to as A513 Type 5 tube and is typically constructed from SAE 1020 or 1026 steel with a chemical composition of carbon, manganese, phosphorous and sulfur.
Also Know,
DOM round steel tubing is a type of high quality welded tubing that has been cold worked and drawn over a mandrel to create a smooth surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
