There are generic versions of selenium sulfide medications available. Selenium sulfide is the "generic name," or the active drug contained in brand-name medications. There are a variety of brands of topical selenium sulfide, including Selsun, Dandrex, Exsel, Selenos, Selseb, and Tersi Foam. Many selenium sulfide products are available over-the-counter, but the 2.5% strength selenium sulfide, both the generic and the brand-name versions, is available only with a doctor's prescription.
