Is the 1911 the traditional single stack and the 2011 double stack?

Asked by Raiden Kirby on Dec 12, 2021 FAQ

Is the 1911 the traditional single stack and the 2011 double stack? Also, what is STI? is that a company or a type of 1911 style frame? Yes, the 2011 is the polymer frame hi-cap. The frame is steel and the polymer "snaps" into the frame and is secured by screws. STI is a big manufacturer of semi-custom guns, SVI is the other.
In this manner,
The 1911 is a traditional single stack weapon, but in the last decade, we’ve seen the rise in double stack 1911s. These are commonly called 2011s, but I believe STI owns the 2011 term. Either way, double stack 1911s exist and Rock Island Armory wanted a piece of that market.
Likewise, Neither of those are 2011's and should not be called 2011's, they are double stack 1911's. They have a metal frame and grip similar to a regular 1911 frame just widened. A 2011 has a modular metal frame with an interchangeable grip.
In fact,
The Rock Ultra FS HC comes in both 10mm and 45 ACP and the 10mm model is what we are looking at today. Why A Double Stack 1911? A lot of people like the trigger and ergonomics of the 1911 platform, but hate the fact you are limited to 7 to 9 rounds in a full sized handgun.
Consequently,
The Tactical Double Stack Threaded, in .45 ACP, has a 15-round-capacity, double-column magazine with witness holes. The basis for the Tomasie Custom Double Stack is the same stainless steel receiver we have already covered. It differs in the sense that it is a .40 S&W and uses a magazine with a capacity of 18 rounds.
