How to add universal analytics to google analytics 4?

Asked by Nathaniel Watts on Dec 04, 2021 FAQ

Creates a connection between your Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 properties. This connection makes it possible for you to use Setup Assistant in your Google Analytics 4 property to migrate configurations from your Universal Analytics property to your Google Analytics 4 property.
Keeping this in consideration,
Google Analytics 4 is a completely different entity from Universal Analytics. You can’t turn a Universal Analytics property into a Google Analytics 4 property or “upgrade” to Google Analytics 4. However, you can set up a new Google Analytics 4 property and link it to an existing Universal Analytics property.

Indeed,
Top Tip: If you want to create a new Universal Analytics property, click on Show advanced options during the first step, Property Setup. You can flip a switch that will create a Universal Analytics property, then choose whether you want to create a linked GA4 property along with your UA property.
Accordingly,
A new version of Google Analytics was introduced in October 2020 that requires the usage of a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property to track unified web and app analytics. More details on the differences between GA4 and Universal Analytics (UA) are available here.
