How does insert send and insert return work?

Asked by Idris Clayton on Dec 05, 2021 FAQ

Usually there is a pair of connections, an “insert send” for sending the audio out to the external gear’s input, and then an “insert return” for patching in the output of the external gear back into the channel.
Subsequently,
Return Value: The function returns an iterator pointing to the inserted element in the container. Parameters: The function accepts two parameter which are described below: element: It specifies the element to be inserted in the set container.
One may also ask, Instead of using inserts, we use an effects send bus to allow us to route a controllable amount of signal from multiple channels to the same effects processor.
Indeed,
As a starting point, some mixers might send a vocal to a delay, then the send the output of the delay into a reverb. This way, the delay gets a longer, washed-out decay without muddying the vocal itself. If you’re new to sends and return effects, I hope this article has given you a better idea of how to use them and what mistakes to avoid.
In respect to this,
An insert is both the input and the output. They use a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) connector. The tip, for instance, will be the send, and the ring would be the return. The mixer usually labels the insert so you know which is input and which is output. You'd use a 'Y' cable. The bottom of the 'Y' is TRS. The tops of the 'Y' are both TS.
