Can a serial port mapper map a com3 port?

Asked by Roger Fitzgerald on Dec 11, 2021 FAQ

With the help of Serial Port Mapper you map the physical COM5 to a COM3 alias. Now the communications application can open the physical COM5 port via the COM3 alias. Serial Port Mapper will allow com ports to be configured to work on PCs where Bluetooth Port assignment cannot be achieved in the required range.
Besides,
Serial Port Mapper redirects all the data and signals from the hardware serial port to its alias. So, the COM port which has been unavailable for communications applications now becomes available and suitable for work. The program fully emulates internals of mapped COM ports.
In fact, To use this COM port in a virtual desktop or application, install your user device Application and point it to the mapped COM Port name. For example, if you map COM1 on the client to COM3 on the server, install your COM port Device application in the VDA and point it to COM3 during the session.
Accordingly,
Client COM port mapping allows devices attached to the COM ports on the user's endpoint to be used during virtual sessions. These mappings can be used like any other network mappings. For each COM port, a driver in the OS assigns a symbolic link name such as COM1, COM2, etc, which is then utilized by the applications to access the port.
Also Know,
There are no serial ports on your computer. To connect a serial device a USB-to-Serial adapter is used which appears in Windows as COM5. Old serial communications application cannot open COM5, since only the names COM1-COM4 are hard-coded. With the help of Serial Port Mapper you map the physical COM5 to a COM3 alias.
